I've heard the B18 was developed from a Volvo truck V8 engine - its basically one bank with the bottom end built for two.
Other than John Parker's supercharger kit the most interesting performance parts I've seen for B18/B20 engines is at www.KgTrimning.com . Its a Swedish company that sell parts I've just not seen for sale at all. And their prices are very reasonable as well. For example - the overbored B20 headgasket you mentioned - IPD had them for $100 but no longer lists them at all on their website. KgTrimning has them for $56. And talk about interesting - they sell overbore gaskets for B30's as well! B33?
Some other things I see browsing through their fascinating catalog (in Swedish - but decipherable)
- B20 modified heads - in 5 degrees of heat - ported, polished, shaved, bigger valves (up to 46 I, 40 O), reshaped combustion chambers. From $466 to $1419.
- B30 modified heads - same as above in 3 increasing levels of modification. From $895 to $1324.
- B20 heads specially modified for use with Turbos - lower compression - Intakes not so big but big exhaust valves. from $638 to $854.
- B30 turbo heads as well - $854 to $1200.
- B20 Cams - 7 different levels from street use to wild race only cams (13.9 mm lift, 320 deg. duration!) - $170
- 5 different B30 cams - $285
- All the stock Volvo cams - A, C, D, K, F, R, S for only $66
- Steel B20/30 cam gears (very hard to find) $174
- Head gaskets for overbored B20 (B22) - $56
- Head Gaskets for overbored B30 (B33) - $164
- Stroker B20/B21/B23 cranks (from 80mm to 86mm) - $618
- replacement rocker arm assembly - stiffening aluminum girdle and 1.6:1 leverage roller tipped rockers - $273

- They even have something called 'Lumenition' - it looks roughly like a DCOE body with an injector mount. I guess its some sort of high performance tuneable FI system - they list a pair of these (each 2 throated like DCOEs) for $759 - but I can't tell if that is just the throttle bodies or the complete system???
- B20 headers - $218
- B30 headers - $428
- Bilsteins (for PVs!!) - $94 each
- etc, etc, etc
Shipping is quite reasonable as well.
