Are you new to owning a Volvo? If yes, two area are first-to-do. One is to get the books, two is to do the zero-mile maintenance work.

The books. Single volume shop manuals are Haynes, or Bentley, I read both.
Then there are the Volvo Service Manuals, different books for different areas. Get at least the Wiring Diagrams. http://www.volvotechinfo.com/index.asp Be prepared for more $$$, but it'll be worth it.

The zero-mile maintenance. If you have not got the records on when certain things were done, start your own mile count. Things like PCV service, Timing and drive belts, engine seals, suspension bushings, motor and transmission mounts, brake system and cooling system and transmission flush, and (obviously) oil and filter change, etc.

I have a 1986 244GL (paid 1800 two years back, OD broke in 1997 at 185K) and even without putting in the bux for full a/c repair, it's done great.
