Rain sensitive wipers, sort of. 200 1986

First really rainy day in Florida after I acquired the brick. LOVE those tail foglights, just wish everyone else had them as well....

Intresting problem arose this afternoon, as I was heading home from work. The wipers do not shut off at all now, they are stuck at the slower continous setting. Only way I managed to get them to stop for a while was to push the lever down just slightly. I am not that worried about it since it's still raining, but once the rain stops, I'd like for the wipers to stop as well :-)

Also, the window defroster button on the blower controls doesn't stay down, and the ducts seem to be partially blocked, so my weekend plans are pretty much laid out.

Before I start dismantling the steering column & dash into molecules, I was just wondering if these are common problems?
