What could this strange idle fault be?? Grateful for suggestion 200 1985

I have a 1985 240 and has this really annoying problem. It was running fine for the first time in a few months after solving a fuel starvation problem. With the engine running well, I flicked the ignition key to the off position momentarily with the intention of retaining idle, and thats when it went bad. Power loss was instant, coupled with slow response from the throttle, revs were then limited to around 4000. Has anyone come across such symtoms before?

I would appreciate ANY help with this, I am really frustrated now!
