Actually, I *was* at Tweeter yesterday, and the sales guy (about half my age) to his credit did exactly what you suggest, without prompting from me. Hence I heard the RX57's (and others) driven only by the 22 +/- watt output of the Kenwood CD player he selected (comparable to what I'm getting). No amps, no subs.

I was satisfied (actually delighted) by what I heard. I appreciate your strong vote cast for the subwoofers, but life is full of compromises and living without subwoofers in the 245 is one I can accept. (If I didn't have 2 kids in private school I might feel differently... it's like buying 2 new cars every year.) Recognize that a decent sound source and way better speakers already will give sound quality an order of magnitude better than what I've been listening to for quite some time!
