Intermittent cut out while accelerating 700 1985

Saga continues. I now suspect something fishy around the coil side of things. Around the same time the intermittent cut out was happening I was having some tachometer issues. I thought it was not related, just a gauge problem. Today I ran a test bulb from the main fuel pump to see if the pump shut off when the intermittent occured. Light stayed on so I went looking for my next test bulb area. Went to the coil and grounded a test light to the post and took probe end and touched the tachometer side of coil. When I did this I got some sparking and the engine would hesitate/sputter just a bit. I do not think this is normal. Attempting to follow the Haynes wiring diagram is a bit of a nightmare but it seems alot of the items I have been having trouble with are all tied in together. Will keep posted.
