92 960 block serial number 900

Your situation and mine are alike in that we both first bought a Volvo 960, then found out it can a bag of problems and a money pit. I say can be rather than is because some at Brickboard have not had too many problems and are happy with their cars. You are ahead of me in that you have more experience with Volvos and their repair and maintenance. Still, an ALLDATA CD ($20) for the car and model year is a BIG help, not as good as complete library of Volvo factory manuals, but sort of an abridged version plus all TSB. After Tom has his disaster and posted Volvo dealer prices of $4,000 to rebuild a head, $2,200 for pistons plus $1,030 for rings, etc, I did a bit of research and found a source for reputedly very goods remanufactured heads with OEM parts and brand new cams for $1,300, OEM Mahle pistons for $375 with rings, etc. If you can afford such part prices when and if the time comes, then rest easy and enjoy your car while you have it. If you want to trade repair and maintenance experiences, I am game, as I am sure are others at Brickboard. We are learning more about the car as it ages, and perhaps we can lick it. Good luck and enjoy your car with as few worries as possible.
