AW70L replacement 700 1989

My AW-70 sometimes wasn't shifting out of 1st gear (not a problem with the kickdown cable), so yesterday it took it out of the car. There is a transmission shop near where I live, so I asked them what they charge for a "carry-in" rebuild job. $1200!!!! I just about choked, that's outrageous. I can get 5 or 6 used units for that price (with a 90 day guarantee).

So I've decided to go the junkyard route. If there isn't a 70L available, what should be my next choice... 70 or 71? Also, would a unit out of a 240 or 940 fit into my 740? What parts might I have to change to make it fit?

Thanks!
