A story of poor gas milage 200 1979

I hadn't paid attention to my milage all winter ('79GT). I was used to every Wed. Morn before classes started to stop off at hte gas station and fill up, it took exactly 18$ to fill it up every time (Can you tell the only driving I do is to school and home?) Well I was about to go on a trip to Vancouver BC (Down from Kamloops) So I thought I would see what kind of milage I got before I left. Well through city driving (School and back) I got 212Km to ONE tank of gas! 39Liters!!!! In the summer I was getting close to 550Km almost 600 in city driving!

So I started asking myself what it could be. And thought, well its been running cold lately. I pulled the thermostate and swapped it for a warmer one. Bang on, Milage went sky rocketing!I got 550Km on the next tank of gas! Jordan was a happy boy!

Milage stayed way up on his trip to Vancouver he was happy, he could afford the toll highway and get there quicker.

On the way back I got stink for milage! Usually I use under 1/2 a tank of gas on the way back, speeding too (130Km/h). I went 110Km/h (speedlimit) on the way back. I used a full tank of gas!

Back to what it might be. Got to town and heard whistling when I stepped on teh gas. Oh a vaccum line must be off. Well I get home and no lines are off, the whistle isn't there at idle, but when I rev the engine up it does whistle. I got my Girlfreind to keep the revs up while I stuck my head in the engine to listen for the wistle. (don't worrie I didn't put it in the fan or belts)

I Think my injector seals are leaking as thats where the sound is coming from, its pretty cold so I don't want to be out there spraying stuff on my engine.

Will the seals make a huge impact on milage? When I change them should I change the all the vaccum lines I can? They are cheap, just a time consuming job.

What else might some of you intellegent minds come up with as possible causes?

I'd like to improve my milage so I only fill up the tank every two weeks instead of every week! thanks!

(How many other people are paying 46c per liter out there?)

Jordan
