Heater Core Replacement??? 700 1989

I am in same predicament, still waiting for my new core to arrive.

Found out that with coolant reservoir cap only loosely on, and a low temp setting (18 C) on temp dial leak reduced to drivable condition. In defrost position the leak is prohibitive for driving, but with fan in pos 3 or 4 the windshield stays free of frost even at 18 C setting.

I will not put any chemicals in there, fear of plugging turbo cooling etc.
