any recommended additives to cure a leaky trany? 200 1985

Hey,

I let my 78 sit for about a year because it had a leak. Then I discovered that it was leaking from the passenger side selector shaft seal. Cost to fix: $2.00.
Seal is located not far from where the header pipe comes down. In fact you would have to drop the header in order to fix it.

Selector shaft is the shaft that your gear shift selector is attached to down in the tranny, both ends protrude through the tranny wall. I found two cars with this leak. Both were on the passenger side. I believe the one on the drivers side has something holding it in. The pass one is just kind of pressed in.

In one case that seal was so loose I could pull it out with my fingers. The other came out with the help of a screwdriver(just make sure you dont gouge the cylinder to far in)I put sealer on the new seal(from napa). No more leak.

I recommend cleaning everything off really good, and then observe closely so you can see exactly where its coming from.
