Bad Synthetics and oil changes

Go with full synthetic and go with Mobil 1. Its a damn fine synthetic. If you have the money, spend an extra 2 bucks a quart and get amsoil. I'd agree w/ whoever told you to change filter at 3k and oil at 6k. I am using the amsoil sdf42 oil filter, and I will only change that every 6k, so I expect to only change my oil and filter twice a year now. Synthetic oil really doesn't start to break down till after 10k miles. All of this, of course, is assuming you don't autocross the car every weekend...

Don't change it every 2500 miles. Thats almost asanine considering the oil you'd be taking out would be just as good as the oil you'd be putting in.

The amsoil filter is badass, too. You can just tell by its weight and size compared to the Mann (although the mann is by no means a bad filter, I just liked the idea of only changing oil and filter twice a year).

If you do autocross or push your car to the limit regularly, I'd say change it more often, and I'd say put in redline oil (now we're talking pricey).
