Overdrive on 740 wagon 700

My overdrive seems to be a bit goofed up please help. This morning on my work to work overdrive engaged when i first got on highway , but seems that when tranny fluid got warm it went back to normal and there was a buzzing sound ,like an alarm, this went away when you pushed the overdrive button again. How do I check and maybe fix what it might be??
I have an 88 740 gle wagon any advice would be great.
