Idle Questions 700

Sorry about the last post,

Hello everyone,

Just a quick question regarding idle on a 1989 740GL (B230f). Upon cold start in freezing temperatures, the idle will immediately jump to 1500rpm and then drop in steps to normal rpm of about 800 (I know it is still a little high from the 750rpm). Also, the rpms will fall (about 100 rpm's) if I use electrical devices especially when the engine is cold (ie flicking on high beams or turning on seat heaters).

Is this normal or do I have a vacuum leak/iac motor problem. I ask because I have a high fuel consumption issue (20mpg - city) that is tripping code 231 but the check engine light doesn't come on (like the FAQ suggest it should). I have already checked the hoses to throtle body, changed the o2 sensor & AMM (used), & cleaned the IAC. What am I missing? Thanks in advance.

Tim
