Please help - brakes pads out and so are new ones due to piston not going back 200 1991

My 240 wagon is up on the jacks and what I thought was a simple job is not the case. The rear pads are being replaced and one piston is not going back in enough for the new pads to go in. The outside piston pushed back easily but the inside on will not. Any tips would be appreciated. Not sure if I need a rebuilt caliper unit or if bleeding will help or taking the caliper assembly off to get at the piston easiler will help.
