Fuel System Problems Ever Continuous 700 1992

The FPR should NEVER have fuel on the vacuum port side, that's a sure sign of a bad one. What is normal is fuel coming out of the RETURN hose (the one with the hose clamp on it).

The fuel pump is designed to provide enough fuel to meet the engine's maximum requirement while still keeping the proper system pressure. The FPR operates by returning all the excess fuel not needed, back to the tank. If you do not get a steady stream of fuel at that port, then either the mail fuel pump is too weak (the engine would probably not be able to rev higher than idle) or the FPR is stuck shut. You'd need a pressure gauge to confirm.

Just about the only way you could have air in the fuel system is if the joiner hose on the outlet of the in-tank fuel pump failed AND the fuel level was below 1/2 tank. Usually if the in-tank pump is good and the hose leaks, there are no symptoms. If the under-car pump isn't noisy, then the system isn't picking up air or straining to pull fuel from the tank.

As for those wires - you're right that they're for the main pump, and if you had hurt them, the engine wouldn't be running at all.

I didn't see your earlier posts so not aware of your complaint, but:

1, if you got no change with the AMM disconnected you should be very suspicious of it. How did you determine it was "good"?

2, one of the most common causes of running problems on the turbo engine is the failure of any one of those cloth/rubber hoses on the pressure side. Even if you'd SWEAR they were all good, you might find a rip where you cannot see it. G*d knows, I've been through that a dozen times on my Volvos. Don't forget that you can have a pressure leak at the intercooler.
