Recent roadtrip story... 200 1984

Not much to tell, really, just wanted to share the joy of driving my recently-refreshed '84 on a recent business trip. Went from Santa Rosa, CA to San Diego, CA and back-- about 1100 miles round trip. My '84 4-door sedan was off the road for about a year when the engine required some major service. A couple of months back I fired it up again for the first time, with new rings, new bearings, fresh gaskets and a repaired wiring harness. After ~1500 miles of breakin, I've been driving it on longer trips.

The San Diego trip was completely uneventful. The speed limit on I-5 is 70mph, so 75-80mph is pretty much what traffic does. That B23F spun at ~4000rpm for the whole trip, 9-10 hours each way, without a complaint. Oil dipstick didn't drop measurably, averaged about 23-24mpg. No overheating, no knocking. Could use a slightly tighter shim on some of the valves, it's got a bit of a tick at speed.

Volvo made a fine car back then.

Mike
