Power sunroof diagnosis 700 1989

I have recently bought my first Volvo. It is a 1989 740GLE. It only has 111,000 miles and I got it for $3000, so I think I did ok.

And yes, I know about the dreaded 16 vlave engine. Some former owner didn't, and this engine had a head rebuild at 80k.

The only thing that doesn't work is the sunroof. I wasn't too familiar with how it works. I pushed the button and nothing appeared to happen, but I heard a motor run. Something had moved. I got out and saw that the rear edge had popped up about 1". Inside, there is a small panel in the headliner that I guess is supposed to pop up when this happens. But it didn't pop up, although I could open it by hand.

So I went to close it. All I get now when i push either side of the button is a click. Thank goodness the manual came with the car so I figured out how to close it with a screwdriver.

Now all I get is a click when I push the rocker switch either way.

I'd really like for the sunroof to work. But I spent my money on the car, So I can't afford to pay anyone to fix it.

I'm pretty mechanically inclined (heck, I used to own Fiats, so I'd have to be!). I hope somebody here can help.
