1990 740 locking me out!! 700 1990

I just purchased my 1990 740 Turbo Wagon. I had to call a locksmith due to the car locking me out! I went out to warm up the car (It is -1 today...), and when I came back out to get in, the car locked all of the doors-when I grabbed the driver door handle. Is this normal? I thought it might be some sort of anti-theft device...but it is annoying as hell! My spare key was in the center console, since I just got the car. I definitely want to disable this, since I have a 2 year old, and cannot risk him being locked in the car. This does seem to only do it when the car is running. -Thanks! -Tony B.
