It's going into 4th now, but...

Re: my earlier post about my car not shifting into 4th... I checked the trans fluid and it was not registering on the stick. This is very disturbing to me as I just had it serviced and asked my mechanic to check all fluids. I guess I should have been more specific and requested that if any of the fluids he checks is low to please add the appropriate fluid to the appropriate level--obviously an error on MY part.

I added trans fluid to the point that it is registering in the correct place on the stick. And it is shifting into 4th, but I'm having to back off of the accelerator in order for it to shift. I don't recall having to do this in the past.

New question: is this an early sign/symptom that my trans is going out, or is the "old girl" just showing her age (1984 240DL wagon)

Thanks to all who have offered advice, and thanks in advance to those who will.

Best,

MS Tennis
