'bouncy'/'Boat' like feel of engine and tranny...... 700 1988

Hey all,
I installed new engine and tranny mounts about 5000k's ago, and have noticed that i STILL get the very "after bump" effect, where it feels like the engine and trans are STILL bouncing around after i hit a few big bumps in a row. It's really bad, like, hrm, it's hard to describe, it just feels like every BIG bump you hit it reverberates through the car, like, another 2 times or so. The gearstick moves a substancial amount, and this worries me for a few reasons! The centre bearing housing needs replacing, would this be affecting it? (rubber is REALLY soft)? The engine mounts i replaced were solid rubber ones, i have a manual tranny, despite popular believe my Aug '88 model has solid rubber engine mounts. I was wondering if there was any way of making the engine mounts more "solid" (no suggestions of welding the mounts!!!), i am not really worried about vibrations, they are minimal compared to the "lack" of boatness i'd feel. Maybe others can feed back about their own cars.... my engine bounces enough to make the a/c compressor (not at the FULL extension of the adjuster, but about 1-1.5cm away from full) come about .5cm AWAY from the chassis rail on big bumps (i know this because the rubber a/c hose has a few grooves in it!) i am talking decently rough/potholed roads tho, but any input appreciated, even if it is to poke fun!
Thanks in advance,
Az
