I don't know what to do with this car. If I could trust the engine to be reliable, I would keep it as a utility / second car.
The car is great (but needs paint). Most of the suspension bushings are less than 3 years old. It has 1 year-old Bilstein struts up front and Boge shocks in the back. The IPD seat covers are in very good condition and actually look like original equipment. It has great sound with component speakers, a nice amp, and a CD player (< 2 years old). I installed a sunroof motor from a 90's model 760, so the sunroof is powered. The glass is in good shape - no ugly cracks.
In '96, I replaced the horribly-geared BW51 automatic with an AW71 4spd auto (overdrive) from an '89 760. It was a lot of work, but it was fun, and I got an article about the conversion published in the VCOA magazine that summer. The extra gear got me 6 more MPG on the highway!
I'm not sure converting this to a four-cylinder would be worth the trouble (mounts, computer, etc., etc.) However, I would drop a known _good_ V6 in there. If I can start with a V6 in good condition, I now know how to make those things go 250,000 miles...
The engine runs well and fairly smoothly, but a small head gasket leak is pressurizing the cooling system (this is the killer - stresses hoses and causes leaks).
So I could try to sell it outright, sell it one part at a time, or give it a reliable engine. What do you guys think?
Thanks,
Adam
