Fuel pressure regulator noise 900

Hi all,
My 92 940T (that I have only had a few months), has a very noticeable rapping noise that can be heard at idle inside the car. A Volvo mechanic tells me it is the fuel pressure regulator and is common to the engine. He said that Volvo sells a dampener for the fuel line that will smooth out the flow and cut down the noise. Does anybody else have this problem, and has anyone tried the dampener? The noise sounds almost like a water pump or alternator bearing, but does seem to be the regulator, which I presume has some kind of diaphram, that moves back and forth and transmits noise to the fuel rail and into the cabin. The Volvo parts man says he can order the dampener (for $130.Cdn + tax), but doesn't sell very many, which would lead me to believe that it can't be that common a problem. I'm wondering if the regulator itself is bad, as I can't see too many Volvo owners putting up with a noise that makes it sound like an old junker. The car runs very well and is in very good shape.
Thanks in advance.
