ABS codes without special diagnostic tool? 700 1992

1992 Volvo 740 (a 940 with a 740 trunk and taillights). 125k miles.

Is there any way to get the ABS code without taking it to a shop? I have standard shadetree mechanic tools. So far I've tried:

-tapping the relays.

-cleaning the front wheel sensors.

-unplugging and replugging the front sensor wiring connectors.

For about a year the ABS lamp lit occasionally at the 2mph "test", but a restart would turn it off.

Then a few months ago it would come on with ignition, and stay on, but still reset sometimes.

Now it just stays on continuously.

If I just knew what the code was i'd know what to do. Right now I'm just stabbing in the dark.
