bad thermo-time switch? 200 1981

Hi, 81 240 B21 with a colorful past...
After much playing with the car (rewired, muffler, fuel pumps etc) it is down to only one (or two) quirks..
The easy one is dripping power steering fluid, i assume that the square box bottom with all the 10mm nuts has a gasket that can go bad? I tried just tightening all the nuts, havent run it again yet.
The hard one is it will start COLD or HOT not anything in between (unless you spray some QuickStart into the injector :D ) I tested the cold start valve, it seems to be fine. That gets me to the thermo time switch... When i was wiring the wires to it were ok, but the connection on the top of the switch was chipped badly, not certain the wires can hold on tight to it... Parts of this car also came from the Houston TX area, it may be the wrong switch for my Las Cruces, NM high altitude, hot and dry climate. OR perhaps the computer needs to be informed that it is in the desert now? So. Would the thermo time switch make it not start when warm? Or is it time for it to hit a shop for the computer? or any other ideas?
Thanks!
Delphine
