Tank half full - car sputters or dies 200

I have a 1987 Volvo 244. Recently, when the tank is around half full the car will hesitate or sputter at acceleration. Yesterday, it died.

I hear that there is a hose that needs to be replaced. What kind of hose would I need to use and what are the approximate dimensions?
