B234 Cold Start Problem... 700

I've been having an intermittent problem with cold starts on my 89 740 GLE with the B234 (16 Valve) engine and Automatic (AW72) transmission... It just cranks, but won't fire (usually with a temperature change)... I have used starting fluid as a last resort (I was about 40 miles from home).... and it started reluctantly..... and ran a little rough after first starting, then smoothed out and was like "normal"... When i bought this car it needed a Fuel Injection Computer (the previous owner must not have known why the car only revved to 1500 RPM)... and I've also been fairly disappointed with my fuel mileage, I have yet to better 16 MPG combined city/highway.... The engine does feel like it has plenty of power though... I have tried changing the coolant temp sensor with no improvement, Could i have gotten a bad one??? Any help is appreciated!!
