I don't think the regulators have any difference in function - the later one just sits in the middle of the fuel rail instead of on the firewall. You might try getting a pressure gauge and hooking it up (use the cold start valve hose) and check the fuel pressure when running. It should be at 28 - 30 psi at all times, regardless of engine load. Let it run for the 10 minutes until it dies and see if anything changes.
The dying problem might not be FI related. If you have problems with fuel flow they will almost always manifest themselves under heavy engine loads when the demand for fuel is greatest. On D-Jet the pump runs full steam at all times and at idle 99.9% (OK - I made that up:) of the fuel is just getting recirculated back to the tank. So it would be quite unusual for it to starve for fuel at idle. In any case the fuel PSI will rule that out. If the PIS stays steady then fuel supply is fine.
You might try looking at a plug quickly when it dies. If the motor is running too rich (i.e. bad coolant temp sensor or wiring????) then the plug will be sooty and damp with fuel after dying. Or it could be ignition related.
