head job B234F 700

Finally got my DOHC rebuilt. (For 1990 740GLE). Very expensive, but if this thing works, I'll have a decent used car for about $1300.

My question is how important is it to have the timing belt tension gauge when I put the belts (also balance shaft) back on. I don't want to go overboard, because for all I know there still could be a bunch of stuff ($$$) wrong with this car.

Chilton's also mentions a special tool for camshaft removal and install, and a protractor type gauge for head torquing. I think I can guess pretty close to the 115 degrees, but what about the other stuff?

I want to try to get it running and go from there, but I don't want to pop the valves either. Is there some way this can be done by reckoning, and than once going, get it to a shop?

Thanks,
jc
