Alternator Problem 200

What year 240? The newer 240s have a tensioning mechanism. If you have the old type the alternator should pivot freely on the bolt you are talking about. It that bolt is out of place it may be bent jamming it into the bracket. You might want to take the whole alternator and bracket off the car to get a better look. It held on with three bolts. I think they are 13mm socket heads and I am pretty sure you can get them off with the alternator in place. Its really awkward but I have done it on a Saab because according to the Haynes manual I would have had to pull the motor out of the car to change the alternator. I found another way. I have taken two of the bolts off a volvo bracket, but I have never tried the third.
