960 Driveshaft thumping 900

1994 960 with a thumping sound under acceleration and under load on the highway. Julio posted similar complaints around the middle of Febuary with his 940. The responses suggested transmission mount, shaft alignment, and exhaust rattling. Inspection of my drivetrain looks like everything is as it should be with one exception: The middle driveshaft support looks like it might have too much play. I can hold the driveshaft and move it up, down, right, and left about a quarter of an inch without much pressure. Plus make it thump if I shove it hard.

I'm thinking that's the problem, and the center support should be replaced. Any thoughts/suggestions? Julio, did you replace yours and solve the problem? How much for the part? Is there an aftermarket alternative?

Thanks for any advice.

Robert
