AIR MASS METER 700 1985

Can anyone tell me the test parameters for the air mass meter on a 740 (B230F engine)? Mine will not run properly after starting, and dies. If I disonnect the amm, it is better - I can get it to run anywhere by adjusting throttle, and it even idles almost OK. The filament is intact and measures 185 ohms btw pins 1 and 6. Other than that, it looks bad but is there any other test before parting with $250 US?
