You can't take an M46 out of an 81 240 DL without taking the engine out, can you?

Yes, I'm replacing the seal, throw out bearing, clutch and preasure plate. I saw that screw, and pulled it out. I tugged on the shifter, but didn't budge...so i put it back in!! I'll go pull it out again and pull harder this time. Wait.. am I getting this mixed up? There looks to be a "rivited" in peice that hold the two peices together, is that it? On my trans, there is an aluminum arm that's about a foot long and attaches a foot infront of the shifter arm. There are two "fingers" that go down on either end of the trans and have two bolts per side.

One other thing. I have the bell housing and engine a good two inches apart, but the trans won't drop. Is there a shaft that holds the two in line or something? All I can see is the flywheel. I should have a factory Volvo M46 repair manual this Tuesday or Wednesday, so that'll help a lot.

Thanks,
