no click from throtle switch so I set it using an ohm meter, will it work, no cold idle increase? 700 1991

I tried to readjust the throttle switch after cleaning the throttle body. I followed the advise of “Vroom” (thanks for the info) on this site and the Haynes manual. They both recommended listening for a click while slowly rotating the switch counter clockwise, however, I couldn’t get it to click no matter what I tried. I read in another manual (a Chilton’s) that this is dual switch. It outlines a means for testing this switch by using an ohm meter to measure when the two switches (inside) are open and closed. Both switches seamed to be operating fine. I then adjusted the switch by rotating it and watching the ohm meter. The 1st switch (idle switch) is closed (circuit closed) when the throttle is closed. It is open when you just barely open it (the throttle). The 2nd switch (full load switch) is activated about when the kick down occurs (the best I can tell).

Has anybody else tried this? Does it sound like it should work? Or should I stop wasting everyone’s time and buy a new switch?

After test driving the car, the only problem I am having is that the idle did not adjust up when the car/wagon was cold. In other words, if it was an older vehicle, I would say the choke isn’t kicking in.

This is a “91” 740 wagon with 98 k ( my 1st Volvo). I been doing a major tune up on this for the last couple of weekends. So it may be something else causing this cold idle problem.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated, Thanks
