A/C doesn't work, need more advice 700 1992

Most people don't have access to a vacuum pump, which will dry the air out somewhat. if the system is open for only a moment, and the accumulator is vacuumed out properly for the required amount of time, then the accumulator dessicant will still have some moisture removing capacity.

If the system is open for longer than a moment or two, and not properly vacuumed, the moisture is reintroduced into the system from the open accumulator, and will begin reacting with the oil and refrigerant.

I never recommend ANY expenditure that is not a good idea. $50 for a new accumulator is money well spent, vs. hundreds for a new compressor.

But mine is only a professional recommendation, to be taken strictly as that much and no more.
