No, it's more likely that the throttle position sensor is a little out of adjustment. It's a very tight tolerance, and anything out of spec will yield a harsh transition from trailing throttle to accelerating. It will obviously manifest itself much more profusely when the driveline is in "solid" form, when the TC is locked. Manual trans cars would see that behavior very quickly in all gears.
