Upper strut bearing shot....or something else ? Suspension clunk... 700

1992 740 SW: The front rigt wheel makes a loud clunking noise when it is turned from side to side. The noise disappears when the car goes over 15-20 mph...no noise at all. It clunks only when going very slowly or just sits and I turn the wheel...
It does not make any noise when going over bumps, etc...I am thinking about checking the upper strut bearing, but wanted to ask the board if anybody had the same problem. If it is an upper strut bearing...is it difficult to get to it ?
Thanks.
