240 strange electrical problems 200 1984

I'm posting this question on behalf of my dad who is doing battle with some strange electrical gremlins.

Specifically, he says when he turns the headlights on low-beam, the green turn signal indicators come on, the tach drops to 0, and the green OD light comes on (M46). When he turns the high-beams on, the green turn signal indicators go down to about 1/2 brightness, as does the OD light, and the tach goes to approx actual value + 1000. In all cases it's just the indicator lights that come on... the actual turn signal lights and OD are unaffected, just the indicator lights.

This car still has the original unpatched wiring harness so obviously that is suspect, but it seems strange that these are not problems that are normally associated with a bad harness. Any other ideas??

Thanks,
Matt
