Alrighty then, I'm doing my second head gasket job (2 days after finishing the first) on my turbo car due to assumed mistakes made on my part. This time I want to make sure I do this right so that my car doesn't drink water from all cylinders (and sound like a cross between an old beetle and a boat motor) like it did last time. I'm pretty sure the blunder was in the torquing last time. I did the proper sequence, and did three rounds 15lb, 45lb, then 1/4 turn. Thing is, I think that quarter turn was way too hard, i.e. went from 45lbs to as hard as I could possibly torque it just to get that final 1/4 turn, indicating I should have lubed the bolts and cleaned them better. I'm sure there must have been something else I screwed up too.
Anyway, the head was checked by a machine shop, no cracks, so it's not the problem. I'm looking for as many good pointers about doing a good head gasket job as possible, because I really don't want to do it a third time. Thanks a lot to all the wise brickboarders who have any knowledge to share.
