Having trouble removing ignition key 200

I'm having trouble removing the ignition key when I shut off the motor. I can remove the key when I run the automatic trans thru the gears a few times. I'm guessing there's some sort of shift interlock/switch problem with the shifter. Is this likely, and what's the procedure for troubleshooting it? THanks.
