if it were me, I would take off the pads and make sure the caliper wasn't loose. if you have the shim plates behind the pads, i would apply a THIN coat of grease on the both sides before I reinstalled them. I would also clean all the brake hardware, especially the pins that hold the pads in place..they tend to get a mild groove in them from sitting on the same spot so long. Then, when the pads should retract, the pin tends to hold them in place.
an interesting fact I learned recently. The only thing that makes the cylinder in the caliper retract (when you let off the brake) is the piston seal inside the caliper cylinder. So, there is not a whole lot of force retracting the piston, and it doesn't take much resistance to make the piston 'hang up'. And if/when that happens, the pad will rub against the rotor, and you get a squeeking sound. The reason you may be getting the sound when you turn in only one direction is because (if your 84 is like my 91) there are two pistons per caliper. maybe only one of the pistons is 'hanging up.' This would tend to 'cock' the pad(s). The condition would be most noticeable when you turned in one direction.
