Recently, I posted about clouds of black smoke out of the exhaust pipe upon acceleration with the Dawes Device in an '86 760T. All of you Brickboard geniuses diagnosed the problem correctly as an air leak. One or two of you even pinpointed the problem as the hose at the bottom of the turbo blow off valve. At least, there was a small leak there that apparently opened up under added turbocharger pressure. After I changed the hose clamp, the car is running smoothly without the Dawes Device. I am running the car like this for a few days to make sure it is burning cleanly and give it time to burn off some deposits from the combustion chamber. If the car continues to burn cleanly and I cannot find any more air leaks, I will put the Dawes Device back and report. I found the air leak using the unlit propane torch technique from 700/900 FAQ with a Fluke tachometer that revealed the momentary 40 rpm change. I have also sprayed carburator cleaner on the usual suspects, but found no evidence of other leaks until now. As I have no technical expertise to pay you back, I will post some news about low prices for both Volvo and Scan-Tech European headlights for 200 and 700 cars, and about great service from Magnefine filters and the Dawes Device.
