let it sit, battery dies 140-160 1971

My 71 164 was my main transportation but is now in the process of recieving some serious upgrades so down time is common. It may sit as long as a 2 week period without being started and during the winter was not started for a few months. I have had the alternator rebuilt, and still no change. I do not play with electric much but would like to take on this problem. My alt. light has stayed on since the repair of the alt. and I moved out of state after the work was done so I did not take it back to the shop. I can not remember the type of alt. I have, but I can find out. I am replacing the coil and ignition system with a crane fireball. Should I look into a new type of alt? How about the Regulator?
Thank you for any help on this,

Tim
