Mystery white plug on radiator 200 1986

There is a mystery white plug on the passenger side of the radiator of my kid's 86 244. It can be pulled out with just a little effort and has a rubber O-ring seal. It is above the upper tranny fluid line. I tried to figure out what this is at the junkyard and found a wide variety of things, but none like this. The closest was an 88 244 with an expandable rubber plug at that location. Is this something I sould leave alone, like a safety valve, or something I should plug more securely. I'll try to attach a picture of the plug below.
