740 GLE sluggish accelleration 700 1987

My 87 740GLE with 135K has a problem I haven't been able to fix, yet. Virtually overnight, the car noticably lost power. This happens when accellerating from start when cold, and occasionally when hot. The idle is ~750rpm and doesn't jump around. I've had a minor tuneup, cleaned throttle body and fuel system and new fuel filter. The car is okay at speed but when ascending long uphill grades, I'll need to nearly floor the throttle to maintain speed. Also it'll kick into passing gear sooner than normal. This wasn't the case previously. I've read that the FPR may be the problem but symptoms seem to included fluctuating rpm, and I never experience that. Thanks, Glen
