oil consumption - B23E 200

Greetings all,

Have an '82 GLT with the B23E that requires about 0.6l of oil per 1000km. It has 290,000km on it and 175lbs compression across ALL the cylinders. Volvo states anything above 0.4l per 1000km is excessive. All the engines seals are new and there are no drips/leaks. I'm a little curious as my previous car (91 Sentra- I wish the Volvo had that kind of fuel economy!) used no oil at all. Of course, the GLT has a larger engine and more km's. Valve guides/oil seals or just a "slightly" worn engine?

Thanks for any insights-----ben
