How to evaluate automatic transmission? 700 1988

If transmission shifts and performs normally then I think you have answered your own question. I am sure you have the AW71L which is a lock up torque converter. This means that above 46mph and in OD there is no converter slippage and therefore no excess heat is generated. Under that speed and in lower gears just take it easy on acceleration and you should be fine.
If you took off the pan you have only drained part of the old fluid, why not do a flush and change it all.
