brake light switch. 120-130 1967

i own a 1967 122 wagon.
i am having problems with the brake lights.
they are not coming on as soon as they should.
i would like to adjust the switch so that they will come on sooner.
(i have to push really hard on the pedal to get them to come on, harder
than is necessary for normal braking.)
my problem is that i cannot locate the switch.
i have looked around up in the footwell, but can't see it.
is it a pressure switch?
if so, is it not adjustable?
i really hope someone has some insight on this.
thanks.
david henderson.
