940 temperature gauge sensor 900

Our '94 940's temperature gauge gave a few last tries and died. According to the FAQ, up until 92 or so anyway the front of the two sensors on the side of the head was for the gauge, and the back one for FI. Would this be true for a '94 vintage B230F (front-distributor)? I don't want to fry the fuel injection system while attempting to test the display. BTW, the engine is running perfectly and there is no "check engine" light on, so I think the FI system temperature sensor is fine.
