Man I'm so mad right now that I could chew nails in two. My agreement with the manager at Carquest was to take the car back to the Volvo repair shop that installed the new MC and have them replace the rebuilt calipers on the front and Carquest would pick up the tab under warranty including new front brake lines if they were needed. So I took the car back the the Volvo repair shop and explained to them my agreement with Carquest... fine they said.
Well they kept the car for two days and did everything BUT replace the front calipers like they were instructed. They replaced the brake booster and of course it didn't fix the problem and they reinstalled my old one.
Then they said that the junction block valve was leaking from the brakes being bled so much and they replaced that. Then they removed the rear calipers and turned the rotors which really didn't need to be turned. We went to pick up the car this afternoon and they presented me with a bill for $420!!! I went out to check the car and the brake pedal was still touching the floor!!! I of course refused the pay the bill because they did repair work on the car that I had not authorized and the car is still not fixed!!! Not one time did anyone from the shop call me and advise me of the repair status or ask for authorization to do other work on the car that I had not requested them to do. They were getting all huffy with me and I remained calm and explained to them again the original agreement with Carquest and I also explained that they should not have done any additional work on the brakes without my approval.
They kept the car again and tomorrow they are going to replace the front calipers like they were supposed to do from the beginning. As a jester of good will, I told them that I would pay for the new junction block even though it was not leaking last week or this week when the car was dropped off. They wanted to reinsatll my old one (a threat of course) and I told them not to. I only agreed to pay for it because I know sometimes they do go bad and start leaking.
They charged me $82 to remove the rear calipers and another $30-60 for turning the rotors. Hell, I could have bought brand new rotors for that price! I did not pay them anything and they gave me back their clunker loaner car which my wife hates to drive. Oh... they also charged me for adjustment of the booster rod wich they should have done last week when they installed the master cylinder so I'm not paying for that either. Had they fixed the brakes, I would have paid the bill and left, but they did all that work and the pedal is still soft and I refuse to pay for the shotgun repair approach.
We'll see what happens tomorrow, but I'm not paying for any work they did other than the distribution block and I really shouldn't pay them for that since they replaced it without my permission. If they don't make things right tomorrow, I'm calling the local TV station comsumer advocate to ask for help and I'll also file a complaint with the BBB and the state attorney generals office for deceptive business prcatices and ethics.
I'm getting my car back tomorrow whether they fix it or not.
Wish me luck!
